1. Use passwords that are strong and unique and it must be hard to guess.
2. Use effective antivirus software.
3. Avoid giving the email address in public forums/ blogs
Spammers can easily scan the pages for getting links and email addresses and may misuse the data. So If you want to share the email ID, then send it as a plain text formats like username (at) me (dot) com instead of formatted email addresses.
4. Unsubscribe unwanted newsletters and notifications.
5. Don't use auto-replies to external messages
When you set up auto-response for emails, make sure that you set auto-response to be sent only to your contacts and not for all the emails.
6. Disable external image auto-download and display
In most spam emails, spammers embed external images and send emails. When users open the emails and display the images, they automatically track the user based on displayed images and clicks.
7. Never open attachments from unknown Email IDs without scanning.
8. Do not use company email addresses for private messages.
9. Don't click on links in emails from unknown IDs
10. Avoid unsecured networks.
Public WiFi is not secure, and there are many ways in which hackers can steal all the information that passes through a network.
11. Double-check the recipient address, every time - especially on mailing lists.
